Adding a Decorative Flourish to Your Home

The home can easily be a bit bland if you do not have decorative touches to really add your own mark. There are lots of ways to add a personal touch to your home, from adding ornaments, to painting walls the colour you truly love.

When it comes to living areas, a good way to make a house look like a home is add comfy items like cushions, throws, blankets and candles. These add a warm and inviting atmosphere to your room, making it much nicer to spend time in. Another great way is having luxurious curtains in a rich material like velvet, or silks. These can add a lux look which also involves a second texture.

Bedrooms are easy to make your own, again, with curtains, matching bedding and thick rugs or carpets. A furry rug is a comfy touch, and sweet photos of the family add a nice personal look.

The bathroom can have some expensive looking products like fancy bath foam, soaps and fragrance sticks. These keep the air smelling nice as well as looking attractive.

The Layout of Your Kitchen…

Have you ever wanted to redesign your kitchen? Perhaps you get annoyed with the lack of space in your kitchen, or think about how you could do things better if you had a chance to reshuffle the units in your kitchen! The kitchen is a highly used area of most homes, where visitors tend to gather and delicious food is prepared.  Depending on how you use your kitchen, you could layout the design in different ways.

The main things to think about when redesigning your kitchen are:

  • Budget – this is the most important part of your redesign, as your budget sets what you can do. The larger your budget, the more you can do with your new design!
  • Use of the kitchen – some families want a kitchen which can become the main hub of the home, others prefer to be able to close a door on the kitchen. If you want your kitchen to be a thriving mass of activity, you can add extra counters, an island or all sorts of living areas to make your kitchen  the most useful room.  If you prefer to keep your kitchen separated from the rest of the house, a sturdy door which can be closed keeps cooking smells and dirty plates hidden away!

Choosing Curtains or Blinds for Your Home

Choosing the right curtains and blinds for your home is an important task – they serve a function as well as looking good! The different styles of curtains or blinds you go for can depend on a number of things:

  1. Which room you are working on
  2. The light and shade required in the room
  3. The design and decor
  4. Personal taste
  5. Budget

When it comes to kitchens and bathrooms, we very much like the style of blinds, as these can easily be moved out of the way and are easy to keep clean.  In the kitchen, it can be a good idea to go for a style which can be gently wiped clean, especially as the window is so often above a sink!  Bathroom windows could generally benefit from a blind fabric which is resistant to water and heat.  Curtains look best in bedrooms and living areas, where they can be artistically styled to look fantastic.
